Xbox 360 setup instructions
The instructions to connect your Xbox 360 to the Internet vary depending on what type of connection you are using to connect it. Please select your connection type and follow the instructions.
- Bell MTS High Speed Internet
To set up your Xbox for online gaming with Bell MTS High Speed, please review these steps:
- Verify that there is no disk in the Xbox disk drive and turn it on.
- Select Xbox Live from the menu and press the A button on the controller.
- Select Settings from the menu and press the A button on the controller.
- Select PPPoE Settings and press the A button on the controller.
- Change Configuration to On.
- In the User Name field, type your full Bell MTS High Speed Internet username in lowercase, and select Done.
(i.e. jsmith@res1.mts.net) - In the Password field, type your Bell MTS High Speed Internet password.
- Type Bell MTS High Speed Internet for the Service name. Press the B button to go back.
- Select Connect from the menu and press the A button on the controller.
- Your Xbox will try to connect to the online network.
Once connected, select Done from the menu and press the A button on the controller. Setup is now complete.
Note:
If your Xbox does not connect successfully, verify all connections and re-enter your username and password information.

- Direct to DSL Modem or Bell MTS TV Gateway
Hardware instructions:
- Before you connect any cables, make sure there is no disc in the disc tray of your console.
- Turn the console off, then turn off your modem and disconnect the modem from its power source.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of your console.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on your modem. Your modem's LAN port may be labeled LAN, Ethernet, or with a number. Do not connect the cable to the port labeled WAN.
- Turn on your console.
- Wait 30 seconds and turn on your modem.
Xbox 360 Software Instructions:
- In the System area of the Xbox dashboard, select Network Settings.
- Select Edit Settings.
- Select the Additional Settings tab, and then select PPPoE Settings.
- Enter the PPPoE information provided to you and select Done.
- Repeat the previous two steps for Password (leave Service Name blank).
- Select Done.
- When Prompted, select Test Xbox Live.
- Connected to Router
Hardware Instructions:
- Before you connect any cables, make sure there is no disc in the disc tray of your console.
- Turn the console off, then turn off your gateway and disconnect the gateway from its power source.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of your console.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a LAN port on your gateway. Your gateway's LAN port may be labeled LAN, Ethernet or with a number. Do not connect the cable to the port labeled WAN.
- Turn on your console.
- Wait 30 seconds and turn on your gateway.
Xbox 360 Software Instructions:
- Turn on your Xbox 360 console.
* If this is the first time you are turning on your console, you will need to complete the initial setup and create a profile before continuing.
- In the System Area, select Network Settings.
- Select Test Xbox Live Connection. If you are prompted to sign out, select Yes.
* If you have not set your locale on the console, you will be asked to set it. Your locale is the country or region you are connecting to Xbox Live from.
- If the Xbox Live test reports "Connected, congratulations!," you have successfully connected your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live. If you would like to review your settings, select Edit Settings. If you would like to begin gaming, select Xbox dashboard (Y button).
- Connected to Router Wirelessly
Hardware Instructions:
- On your computer, go to the administration or configuration page of your gateway, router, or wireless access point. For information about using this page, see the manufacturer's instructions for your device.
- Write down your wireless network name (SSID), channel, and the security key (WEP key or WPA passphrase) for your wireless network.
- Before you connect any cables, make sure there is no disc in the disc tray of your console.
- Turn off your console.
- Connect your wireless device:
Notes:
- If you are using a wireless-to-Ethernet bridge (sold separately from your system), follow your manufacturer's instructions, connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the bridge. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of your console.
- If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter (sold separately from your system), connect the USB connector to the USB port on the back of the console. Do not use the front USB ports.
- Turn on your console and wireless device.
Notes:
- If you have a wireless-to-Ethernet bridge, turn the device on.
- If you have an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter, the device will turn on with the console.
Xbox 360 Software Instructions:
- Turn on your Xbox 360 console.
Note:
If this is the first time you are turning on your console, you will need to complete the initial setup and create a profile before continuing.
- In the System area of the Xbox dashboard, select Network Settings.
- Consider using Windows Connect Now:
Notes:
- If you have a computer running Windows XP SP2 or later and would like to use Windows Connect Now, go to www.xbox.com/setup. If you use Windows Connect Now, do not follow the software instructions on this page. Follow the instructions at www.xbox.com/setup instead.
- If you do not have a computer running Windows XP SP2 or later, or would not like to use the Windows Connect Now, proceed to the next step.
- Select Edit Settings.
- From the Basic Settings tab, select Wireless Mode.
Note:
If you have not set your locale on the console, you will be asked to set it. Your locale is the country or region you are connecting to Xbox Live from.
- Is your wireless network name (SSID) displayed on the screen?
If it is displayed, select it.
If it is not displayed because you are connecting to a wireless network where the network name is not being broadcasted, choose Specify Unlisted Network. Select the security type for the network, and then enter the wireless security settings for the network.
- Is your network secured with a WEP key or WPA passphrase?
If your network is secured with a WEP key or WPA passphrase, enter your wireless security settings.
If your network is not secured, you will not have the option to enter the wireless security settings.
- When prompted, select Test Xbox Live.
- If the Xbox Live test reports "Connected, congratulations!," you have successfully connected your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live. If you would like to review your settings, select Edit Settings. If you would like to begin gaming, select Xbox dashboard (Y button).
- Home Networking
Hardware Instructions
- Before you connect any cables, make sure there is no disc in the disc tray of your Xbox console.
- Turn the console off, then turn your gateway off and disconnect the gateway from its power source.
- Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back of your console.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to any one of the 3 available Ethernet ports (1, 2 or 3) on your gateway. Do not connect the cable to the WAN port 4. Your gateway's Ethernet ports will be labeled Ethernet. Your computer(s) will likely be plugged into the other Ethernet port(s) of the gateway. The Home Networking gateway allows you to use your computers and Xbox at the same time.
- Turn on your Xbox console.
- Wait 30 seconds and then turn on your gateway.
Xbox 360 Software Instructions:
*If your Xbox console is the only device you have had connected to the Internet, and you have previously set up a PPPoE session path through your Xbox, you will first need to remove these PPPoE settings. In this case begin at step 1. Otherwise, proceed to step 5 (the Xbox console default settings will enable you to connect successfully to Xbox Live)
- Ensure you have no PPPoE settings in your configuration: In the System area of the Xbox dashboard, select Network Settings.
- Select Edit Settings
- Select the Additional Settings tab, and then select PPPoE Settings
- Select Clear Settings and then Select Done on the Edit PPPoE Settings screen.
Go Back (B button) to the Network Settings screen and proceed to step 6
- In the System area of the Xbox dashboard, select Network Settings
- On the Network Settings screen Select Test Xbox Live Connection
- If you are prompted to sign out, select Yes

- If you are prompted to do a console update, Select Yes, update now. If you do not update, the Xbox Live connection test will fail.
- If the Xbox Live test reports Connected, congratulations! You have successfully connected your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live. If you would like to review your settings, select Edit Settings. If you would like to begin gaming, select Xbox dashboard (Y button).
