APN Settings / Using Non-Bell MTS Devices
If you have purchased a device from somewhere other than a Bell MTS store that requires access to data (e.g. a smartphone), you need to program our Access Point Names (APNs) to ensure that your data services work (e.g. accessing the Internet; sending media messages; accessing our mobile storefronts).
Before you get started, please note:
- You cannot enter APNs into a device that has been locked to another carrier.
- To work on the Bell MTS network, your device must support the Bell MTS network bands (UMTS/HSPA 850/1900 MHz or LTE 1700/2100 MHz).
- Once the Bell MTS APN is programmed, you may need to re-enter it when upgrading software on your device.
- Depending on the Operating System, there are different programming instructions as outlined below.
If you have any questions about your device, please contact a Bell MTS store. It is important to understand that these steps are general guidance and may vary by device.
- What is an Access Point Name (APN)?
Cellular devices use APN(s) to request data services from the Bell MTS 4G wireless network. If you do not program the Bell MTS APN into your device, you may experience difficulties accessing the Internet, sending media messages, or accessing our mobile storefronts.
- Android™ Operating System (OS)
These steps outline how to correctly enter the APN(s) into an Android OS device (these steps are general guidance and as such may not exactly resemble every Android device menu options).
- Note that when entering the APN(s) into an Android device, you are encouraged to create two APN profiles to help ensure that data will function while roaming.
